Academics is recruiting on behalf of an "Outstanding" Primary SEN School in Southampton to appoint an experienced and compassionate Special School Assistant. This is a full‑time, term‑time contract (Mon‑Fri 8:45am‑3:15pm). Only apply if you are ultimately looking for a permanent position.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support up to nine pupils in a classroom setting with a class teacher and three other Special School Assistants.
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to promote learning and development.
  • Assist with feeding and personal hygiene duties.
  • Act as a positive role model, motivate and encourage children in their learning.
  • Help maintain the school environment, including soft play rooms, multi‑sensory interactive rooms and a hydrotherapy pool.

Qualifications and experience:

  • GCSE grade C or above in English and Maths, or level 2 Functional Skills in both subjects.
  • Experience working with children in a school setting.
  • Familiarity with PECS, Makaton or similar communication aids is advantageous.
  • Compassionate, enthusiastic, reliable and resilient.

The school caters for pupils aged 4‑11 with complex learning difficulties, including autism, speech and language disorders and challenging behaviours. All pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
