This is a rare and exciting opportunity for a Deputy Headteacher to be part of shaping a new school from the ground up. Working closely with the fantastic Headteacher, you\’ll play a pivotal role in developing the ethos, standards, and daily life of the school – helping to create a nurturing, therapeutic, and aspirational environment where every child is known and valued.

The deputy headteacher will be joining a school that offers a holistic, trauma-informed, and person-centred approach to education – and will be rooted in the community and natural beauty of the Mendips.

What You\’ll Do

As Deputy Headteacher, you will:

  • Support the school\’s development during its crucial opening and early growth phase.
  • Deputise for the Headteacher as required and contribute fully to the senior leadership team.
  • Lead on key areas such as curriculum development, behaviour and wellbeing, safeguarding, and staff development.
  • Foster an inclusive and aspirational learning culture where every pupil is known, understood, and supported to thrive.
  • Be a visible, approachable leader for staff, pupils, families, and external professionals.
  • Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding, inclusion, and positive behaviour support.

What We\’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and has substantial experience teaching and leading in a special or inclusive setting.
  • Has a strong track record of leadership at a senior or middle level, ideally including experience in a special school or specialist provision.
  • Understands the complex and diverse needs of pupils with SEND and how to create an environment where they can flourish.
  • Is committed to ongoing professional development – for themselves and their teams.
  • Has experience in safeguarding leadership (DSL/DDSL trained desirable) and behaviour for learning.
