Classroom Assistant

Are you passionate about inclusive education and supporting children with special educational needs? We're looking for a dedicated and compassionate Classroom Assistant to join a caring and supportive SEND school in Walsall. This long-term role is ideal for someone eager to make a real difference in the classroom every day.

About the Role:

As a Classroom Assistant, you'll work closely with pupils aged 5-16 with a range of additional needs, including Autism, ADHD, SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs), and MLD (Moderate Learning Difficulties). Whether you're supporting 1:1 or within small groups, your role will be key in helping students access learning, manage emotions, and build confidence.

You'll be part of a collaborative and experienced team of teachers, therapists, and support staff who work together to create an inclusive, safe, and engaging learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting pupils in the classroom with tailored learning activities and resources
  • Assisting in the delivery of individual Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets
  • Helping maintain a calm, nurturing, and structured classroom environment
  • Using positive behaviour support strategies to help with emotional regulation
  • Encouraging student independence, resilience, and self-esteem
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with both pupils and staff

About You:

  • Patient, empathetic, and calm under pressure
  • Passionate about inclusive education and supporting SEND learners
  • Confident in working with children who may present communication or behavioural challenges
  • Able to take initiative, follow guidance, and contribute to a team-focused approach
  • Ideally experienced in a special school or similar SEN/SEMH support role (though not essential)
