  • Art Teacher (SEMH School) - Maternity Cover

Academics are recruiting on behalf of a specialist SEMH school in Canterbury for an enthusiastic Art Teacher to join their team on a maternity cover contract for Terms 1 and 2.

This is a fantastic opportunity to inspire and engage students who thrive with a nurturing, relationship-focused approach to learning.

The successful candidate will take on full classroom responsibilities, including planning, preparing and delivering engaging Art lessons, assessing pupil progress, managing behaviour positively, attending meetings and completing all associated marking and administration.

This Art Teacher role is 4 days per week (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday), with Thursdays off, teaching mainly KS3 & KS4 students.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and deliver engaging Art lessons.
  • Assess pupil progress and provide feedback.
  • Manage behaviour positively and maintain a supportive learning environment.
  • Attend meetings and complete all associated marking and administration.
  • Work across KS3 & KS4 as required by the timetable.

Qualifications

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Have experience teaching Art.
  • Be confident managing a classroom and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons.
  • Have excellent behaviour management skills and a calm, resilient approach.
  • Ideally have experience working with students with SEMH needs or other additional needs, although this is not essential.
  • Be passionate about helping young people build confidence, creativity and self-expression.
