Are you looking for part time work in an education setting? We are looking for an experienced Teaching Assistant who is confident working with young children with special educational needs to join a mainstream primary school in Bedminster, Bristol. In this rewarding role, you will support a child in year 1 who has an Autism diagnosis and Global Developmental Delay.

  • 9am - Midday, Monday – Friday
  • 15 hours per week
  • £45 - £50 per half day, dependent on experience
  • Start 12/05/2025, ongoing to the end of the school year

About the role:

  • Assist in the development and delivery of learning plans in collaboration with teachers and SENCO.
  • Implement strategies to manage behaviour effectively, promoting a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Assist with personal care and other physical needs where necessary.
  • Observe and monitor student progress, reporting any concerns to relevant staff members.
  • Foster positive relationships with children, encouraging their social, emotional, and academic growth.
  • Support children in accessing the curriculum and maintaining engagement in lessons.

The right candidate:

  • Previous experience working with children with special needs – particularly those on the autism spectrum.
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to working with children who have additional emotional or physical needs.
  • Maths and English at GCSE – Minimum grade 4/C or equivalent / relevant qualifications in education, special needs, or childcare (e.g., NVQ, CACHE).
