Quantum Scholars are looking for a patient, supportive and experienced 1:1 SEND Science Tutor to provide personalised Science tuition to a young person in Bridgwater, Somerset. This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.
The successful tutor will have experience supporting students with
SEND and will be confident adapting their teaching style, pace and resources to meet the individual needs of the student.
The role will focus on creating a calm, positive and supportive learning environment where the student feels comfortable and confident to engage.
The tutor will build a strong professional relationship with the student while supporting their academic progress, confidence, independence and engagement with education .
The role may involve
- Providing one-to-one Science tuition tailored to the student's individual needs and abilities.
- Supporting the student across relevant areas of the Secondary Science curriculum.
- Planning and delivering engaging, accessible and appropriately challenging lessons.
- Adapting teaching methods, resources, activities and pace to suit the student's learning needs.
- Identifying gaps in knowledge and providing targeted support to help the student progress.
- Breaking down scientific concepts into clear and manageable steps.
- Developing the student's scientific knowledge, reasoning and problem-solving skills.
- Supporting practical and theoretical aspects of Science where appropriate.
- Encouraging confidence, independence and a positive attitude towards learning.
- Helping the student overcome barriers to learning and re-engage with education.
- Supporting revision, study skills and assessment preparation where appropriate.
- Using the student's interests and strengths to make learning engaging and relevant.
- Monitoring progress and providing regular, constructive feedback.
- Building a positive, consistent and trusting relationship with the student.
- Working collaboratively with parents/carers, schools and other professionals involved in the student's education.
- Maintaining appropriate safeguarding and professional boundaries at all times.
Essential requirements
- Experience teaching or tutoring
Science at secondary level .
- A good understanding of the Secondary Science curriculum.
- Experience working with
SEND students .
- Experience providing one-to-one or highly personalised educational support is desirable.
- Ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual learning needs.
- A patient, calm, flexible and empathetic approach .
- Strong communication, organisation and relationship-building skills.
- Confidence supporting students who may have experienced barriers or difficulties within a traditional classroom environment.
- Ability to build trust and encourage students to develop confidence and independence. A genuine commitment to supporting the academic and wider development of young people.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
