Many people can sit in a secondary school classroom and pass out worksheets. At Academics, we are specifically looking for confident, resilient leaders to step up as a cover supervisor in local secondary schools, command immediate respect, and keep teenagers focused on their work.
If you have a background in sports coaching, youth justice, military/emergency services, security, or behaviour mentorship, your transferable skills make you the ideal cover supervisor for the classrooms that need you most.
You won't be expected to plan or mark lessons, but your primary responsibility as a cover supervisor is to own the room.
Command the Room:Step into unfamiliar secondary school classrooms and instantly establish boundaries with teenagers using a calm, assertive presence.
De-escalate Disruption:Effectively utilise school behaviour policies to handle defiance, diffuse tension, and keep students on-task.
You will thrive in the role of cover supervisor if you:
- Have experience managing groups of teenagers or working in high-pressure environments (e.g., sports coaching, youth work, military, behaviour intervention, gym instruction, or security).
- Hold an Enhanced DBS on the update service (or are willing to apply for one).
Zero Take-Home Work: All the authority of a teacher, with none of the evening marking or lesson planning.
Local Work: Consistent opportunities across secondary schools clustered around Chester, Ellesmere Port and surrounding areas.
Foot in the Door: Gain invaluable experience as a secondary school cover supervisor if you are looking to transition into permanent behaviour mentorship, pastoral care, teaching, or emergency services roles.
