An excellent Specialist school in Headington is looking for an ASD Support Assistant to join their team starting as soon as possible. This is a school that helps children who have Autism as their main diagnosis cope and manage with their school, while also providing the best education possible. This is a school that takes inclusivity very seriously. The head teacher is always going above and beyond to ensure that students are taken care of.
These students have ASD as their main diagnosis, and with ASD often comes a variety of other learning difficulties. These students will also struggle with OCD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Verbal difficulties as well as language processing disorders.
As an ASD Support Worker, your main duties day to day will be to help students cope with their school work as well as to encourage and facilitate a safe and fun environment where learning can take place. You will be there to support students on every step of their academic journey.
While your main priority is to be there for the students, you will also be supporting the class teacher. These duties will range from helping to set up lessons, tidy up afterwards, help decorate the classroom with topics that are relevant to the coursework and provide general supervision of the children. You will ultimately have the advantage of being able to shadow the class teacher and be exposed to a variety of methods and techniques. Essentially you will be learning how best you can support these children. Such a fulfilling job!
The successful Autism Support Worker will have a positive attitude above all. You will be passionate about making a difference and helping children achieve the best they can. You will be resilient and confident and be able to adapt your approach to the needs of each child. Having some sort of experience working with children, especially children with ASD will be beneficial. Graduates in Psychology, Criminology, Sociology and other related fields are most welcome to apply, as well as those with backgrounds in sports, music, art and drama.
