Unlock Potential. Join Academics as an ASD Lead Teacher. Academics is searching for an understanding and analytical Primary Teacher to join a specialist hub in Rotherham, supporting children on the Autism spectrum who face additional social and emotional barriers.

Your Mission:

  • Decode Behaviour as Communication: Move past standard behaviour management. You will interpret triggers, design sensory-friendly resources, and implement individualised structures that reduce anxiety and prevent overwhelm.
  • Create Order from Chaos: For autistic pupils struggling with trauma or emotional dysregulation, routine is medicine. You will establish a highly visual, low-demand environment where students feel safe enough to unmask and engaged enough to grow.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Holds QTS with demonstrable experience or a deep fascination for ASD strategies (e.g., TEACCH, PECS, or Zones of Regulation).
  • Possesses a logical, calm mindset; you notice the subtle shifts in mood or sensory input that others miss.
  • Finds professional joy in scripting, special interests, and the "quiet breakthroughs" that happen when a child finally trusts you.

Non-Negotiables:

  • An active Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or immediate willingness to process one).
  • Verifiable references confirming your expertise with neurodiverse, vulnerable learners.

The Rewards:

  • Structured Hours: Term-time only consistency to prevent your own burnout.
  • Specialist Rates: Competitive pay that honours your niche skillset.
  • Deep Fulfilment: Work within a Sheffield provision that actually understands masking, meltdowns, and monotropism-where your adaptations are celebrated, not questioned.
