Academics, acting as an agency, are recruiting a dedicated and compassionate 1:1 Level 2 Teaching Assistant for a full-time, temp to perm role in a specialist SEN school in Sheffield.

- Position: 1:1 Level 2 Teaching Assistant
- Location: Sheffield, South Yorkshire
- Contract: Full-time, temporary (ongoing)
- School: Specialist SEN school supporting pupils aged 11-19 with complex learning and communication needs
- Pay: £88.94 – £100 per day (dependent upon experience, training, qualifications & client rate available, inclusive of holiday pay)
About the Role
This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled 1:1 Level 2 Teaching Assistant to join a specialist setting that supports pupils with autism, communication difficulties, sensory needs, and complex learning challenges. You will provide individualised support for a pupil on the engagement pathway, helping them to access learning in a structured, nurturing, and sensory-focused environment.
You will work as part of a supportive team of teachers and professionals dedicated to ensuring every child reaches their full potential – academically, socially, and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 support for a pupil with complex communication and learning needs.
- Assist with personal care and promote independence.
- Support engagement and interaction through sensory-based and structured activities.
- Implement personalised strategies to support emotional regulation and communication.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and SEN specialists.
- Follow individual education and behaviour support plans.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
Candidate Requirements
- Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (minimum).
- Experience working with children or young people with SEN, ideally in a specialist setting.
- Understanding of the engagement pathway, sensory processing, and complex communication difficulties.
- A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply).
