We are recruiting on behalf of a respected school trust for a reliable, proactive Premises Manager to ensure school buildings and grounds remain safe, clean, secure and well‑maintained. This role is ideal for an experienced caretaker, facilities professional or skilled handyperson seeking a varied and rewarding position.

About the Role

You will oversee the day‑to‑day running of the school site, leading on maintenance routines, health & safety checks, security, cleaning supervision and minor repairs. You’ll act as a key holder, complete planned preventative maintenance, monitor utilities, and ensure a safe environment for pupils, staff and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain buildings, grounds and facilities to a high standard
  • Carry out minor repairs, decorating and general site duties
  • Oversee heating, utilities, drains, lighting and external areas
  • Act as key holder, open/close the site and respond to alarms
  • Ensure full compliance with health & safety requirements
  • Keep accurate records, inventories, risk assessments and logs
  • Supervise cleaning staff, trainees and support workers
  • Manage cleaning schedules, rotas and contractor performance
  • Support school lettings, deliveries, stock control and portering
  • Attend meetings and assist with maintenance planning and budgeting

Specifications

  • Experience in caretaking, maintenance or site management
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to work independently
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good literacy and numeracy
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Ability to carry out physical tasks and manual handling
  • Calm, flexible and committed to safeguarding and H&S

Additional Requirements

  • Must be legally entitled to work in the UK
  • Occasional out‑of‑hours callouts required
  • No term‑time holidays
  • Enhanced DBS check required
