Special School Assistant • Primary SEN School, Southampton • ASAP Start

Academics are recruiting on behalf of an outstanding Primary SEN School in Southampton that is looking to appoint an experienced and compassionate Special School Assistant to join them ASAP. This is a full-time, term-time contract.

The school is looking for a hardworking and resilient individual who can build positive relationships with young people, support, motivate and encourage learning, and act as a positive role model.

Details

Location: Southampton

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8.45am – 3.15pm

Contract type: Full-time, term-time. If you are seeking a permanent position and perform well, the school may offer a temp-to-perm arrangement.

Experience with pupils aged 4–11 with complex learning difficulties (including autism, speech and language disorders, and challenging behaviours). All pupils have an Educational Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

Responsibilities

  • Support classes of up to 9 pupils with 1 class teacher and 3 Special School Assistants.
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support.
  • Assist with feeding and personal hygiene duties when required.
  • Help build positive relationships and provide encouragement to pupils in their learning.

Qualifications & Skills

  • GCSE C or above in English and Maths, or Level 2 Functional Skills English and Maths.
  • Experience of working with children in a school setting is desirable.
  • Experience with PECS, Makaton, etc. would be advantageous.
  • Compassionate, enthusiastic, reliable and resilient.
