Academics are recruiting on behalf of a secondary special school in Fareham which caters for around 185 students who experience severe learning difficulties such as autism and sensory and language challenges. They are looking for a passionate and dedicated Special Needs Teacher who loves teaching young people with special educational needs.
The appointed Special Needs Teacher will be teaching a small class of secondary aged students with severe and complex learning needs, delivering creative, differentiated lessons tailored to each student's individual learning needs. Due to the severe learning needs of the students, you must have experience of using PECS and Makaton to support learning and interaction.
This role is open to both primary and secondary trained teachers, ideally living in the Fareham area.
The successful Special Needs Teacher must:
- Have QTS and recent experience of teaching students with SEN, ideally within an SEN school
- Have experience teaching students with severe learning difficulties (SLD) or complex needs
- Be confident in using PECS and Makaton
- Be compassionate, patient and have a good sense of humour (very important!)
- Be able to commute to Fareham for work
