About the Role

Academics are seeking a caring, patient and experienced SEN Tutor to support a KS1 child with Autism (non-verbal) in accessing academic learning and developing communication skills. The role will involve working on a 1:1 basis, either at home or in school (depending on setting), providing tailored support across core subjects and helping the child to engage, focus and thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver 1:1 academic support in line with KS1 curriculum
  • Use strategies appropriate for non-verbal communication (e.g., PECS, visual timetables, AAC, gestures)
  • Break down activities into manageable steps and provide clear structure
  • Encourage independence, confidence and emotional regulation
  • Work collaboratively with parents/carers and other professionals
  • Record progress and adapt learning plans as needed

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working with children with Autism and non-verbal communication needs
  • Understanding of KS1 curriculum and early learning approaches
  • Calm, empathetic and consistent manner
  • Ability to use visual supports and alternative communication methods
  • Strong behaviour-support and engagement skills
  • Right to work in the UK
