Are you a patient, resilient and motivated SEN Teaching Assistant looking for flexible, temporary ongoing work in specialist SEN schools across Sheffield? Academics are working with a number of warm and supportive SEN settings seeking dedicated staff to support pupils with complex social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), communication differences and other additional learning needs.
Position: SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Sheffield, South Yorkshire
Contract: Temporary, flexible ongoing positions (with potential long-term opportunities)
Pay: £88.94 - £100 per day (dependent upon experience, training, qualifications and client rate available, paid via PAYE - no umbrella company fees)
Start Date: ASAP or from a start date that suits you
About the Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant in a specialist SEMH/SEN school, you will support pupils who may present with emotional regulation needs, sensory differences, communication difficulties or challenging behaviours. Your role will involve helping pupils access learning, build confidence, develop emotional resilience and achieve personalised outcomes within a structured and nurturing school environment. These roles are ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and who thrives in a consistent, supportive team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN
- Promote emotional regulation, resilience and positive behaviour strategies
- Adapt tasks and activities to meet individual learning needs
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and external professionals
- Contribute to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing at all times
- Help create a safe, inclusive and structured classroom environment
- Follow behaviour support plans and individual learning plans
Candidate Requirements
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEN/SEMH (essential)
- Knowledge of additional needs such as SEMH, ASD, ADHD or communication needs
- Calm, patient and confident when supporting dysregulation or challenging behaviour
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Enhanced Child and Adult DBS (or willingness to apply)
- Relevant qualifications (e.g. CACHE/NVQ Level 2/3) are desirable but not essential
- Behaviour management or Team Teach training is advantageous
