Highly-regarded primary schools, secondary schools and tuition centres in Swindon are searching for SEN Teaching Assistants to be employed on an immediate and long-term basis. Many of the children have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) that details specific targets, outcomes and strategies. The SEN Teaching Assistant role demands a dedicated and caring individual who is patient and takes the time to understand the specific needs of each child.

We are looking for SEN Teaching Assistants who are charismatic, empathetic, and demonstrate a genuine desire to make a positive impact on children with SEN. Previous experience working with children with Autism or other special educational needs is highly desirable.

This is a tremendous opportunity to gain experience within the Special Needs and Mental Health sector. In your role as an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will have the chance to observe, work alongside and collaborate with speech and language therapists, educational psychologists, occupational therapists, SENCOs and specialist teachers.

Responsibilities

  • Support individual and small-group learning activities tailored to each child’s needs and EHCP targets.
  • Assist with the implementation of classroom strategies and behaviour management plans.
  • Observe and report on student progress to teachers and SENCOs.
  • Collaborate with therapists and specialists to support student development.

Role Details

  • Position: SEN Teaching Assistant
  • Locations: Swindon (across Primary, Secondary and Tuition Centres)
  • Start: ASAP
  • Hours: Full-Time, 8:30am – 3:30pm
  • Salary: £85 – £100 per day

Qualifications and Qualities

  • Previous experience with Special Needs is desirable
  • Charismatic, empathetic, and patient with a genuine desire to help children with SEN
  • Willingness to observe, learn and collaborate with professionals (e.g., SENCos, SLTs, OTs, EPs)

The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will need to be fully committed to supporting the child or young person on a long-term basis. You will be working closely with class teachers and SENCOs, receiving expert support and specialist training that will be invaluable for your personal development.
