About the Role
Academics are seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Autism Specialist Teaching Assistant to join a specialist provision in Tunbridge Wells. This role is ideal for a skilled professional with a strong background in supporting children and young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), including those with complex needs.
You will work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and families to support pupils' learning, communication, emotional regulation, and independence within a nurturing and structured environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with autism
- Implement personalised education and behaviour support plans
- Support communication using strategies such as visual timetables, PECS, Makaton, or AAC
- Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social development
- Support pupils with sensory needs and transitions throughout the school day
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff and external professionals
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to reviews and EHCP targets
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience working with children or young people with Autism (ASC)
- Strong understanding of autism-specific strategies and inclusive practice
- Calm, patient, and resilient approach to supporting behaviour and emotional needs
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families
- Good communication and teamwork skills
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Relevant qualification (e.g. Level 3 TA, CACHE, or equivalent)
- Experience within a specialist provision, SEN school, or autism unit
- Training in areas such as TEACCH, PECS, Team Teach, or Positive Behaviour Support
