Are you an experienced SEN Care Teaching Assistant (PMLD) or care support worker looking for flexible, ongoing work in specialist SEN schools? Academics are working closely with SEN schools across Rotherham, recruiting SEN Care Teaching Assistants (PMLD) to support pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties on a temporary, ongoing supply basis.
As an SEN Care Teaching Assistant (PMLD), you will be supporting children with complex learning, physical and medical needs within highly structured, nurturing school environments. This role is ideal for individuals with a background in SEN, care or healthcare who are confident providing both educational and care-based support.
Location: Rotherham, South Yorkshire
Contract: Temporary, flexible ongoing
Pay: per day (paid via PAYE - no umbrella company fees)
Start Date: ASAP or a start date that works for you
About the Role
As an SEN Care Teaching Assistant (PMLD), you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with severe learning difficulties, physical disabilities and complex medical needs. The role includes a strong care element, such as personal care, sensory support, and moving and handling, alongside supporting pupils to engage with learning activities. You will work as part of a close-knit, multidisciplinary team, supporting pupils' wellbeing, communication, independence and daily routines in a safe and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver consistent 1:1 and small group support for pupils with PMLD.
- Provide personal care and physical assistance where required.
- Support sensory learning activities and communication approaches.
- Assist pupils with mobility, positioning and daily routines.
- Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation and wellbeing.
- Follow individual care plans, EHCP targets and risk assessments.
- Maintain safeguarding and health & safety standards at all times.
- Support teachers and therapists within daily classroom routines.
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience working with PMLD or complex SEN needs.
- Background in SEN education, care, healthcare or support roles.
- Confident supporting personal care and physical needs.
- Enhanced Child and Adult DBS (or willingness to apply).
