A Specialist School in Reading is seeking a vibrant and friendly graduate to join their team as a Mental Health Support Assistant, and support their pupils with mental health needs. The students at this school range from 11 to 18 years and come from diverse backgrounds with notable social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. Many students will have suffered adverse childhood experiences, trauma and exhibit anti-social behaviours as a result.
The pupils therefore need 1:1 support and guidance, to help them regulate their thoughts and process their emotions in a healthy manner. This is a classroom-based role. You will collaborate with the class teacher and mental health professionals at the school to help engage and support the students. You will identify and address possible triggers for the pupils, concerning their trauma and psychological needs.
