Learning Support Assistant SEMH

Canterbury, Kent – ASAP

We are working closely with a specialist SEN provision in Canterbury who are seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant with experience supporting pupils with Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).

This Learning Support Assistant role is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people who require consistency, patience, and positive role modelling within a structured and nurturing environment.

The Role

  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis
  • Assisting with emotional regulation, behaviour support, and social development
  • Helping students engage with learning through adapted and differentiated activities
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams
  • Supporting pupils with routines, transitions, and personalised support plans

The Ideal Candidate

  • Previous experience working with SEMH and/or ASC (school or alternative provision experience desirable)
  • A calm, resilient, and empathetic approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour using positive behaviour strategies
  • A genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs

Salary: 90 – 100 per day, Mon-Fri, 08:30 to 15:30, PAYE, Term time only
