Academics Ltd is seeking a dedicated Specialist SEN Teaching Assistant confident in therapeutic practice to join a highly supportive, therapeutic school in the Thanet area. This specialist SEMH school provides a safe, structured and therapeutic environment for pupils who require additional emotional and behavioural support. Staff work collaboratively using trauma-informed and child-centred approaches, ensuring every young person receives personalised care and education that helps them thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students
  • Implement therapeutic strategies to help pupils regulate their emotions and behaviour
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff
  • Assist in delivering creative, engaging learning activities
  • Help create a calm, consistent, and encouraging learning environment
  • Coordinate with staff to implement, lead and adapt therapeutic approaches

What we’re looking for

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEN - particularly SEMH (desired but not essential)
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient personality
  • Ability to remain calm and supportive under pressure
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • A genuine passion for helping pupils overcome barriers to learning
  • Willingness to learn therapeutic and trauma-informed practices

** £90 - £100 per day, Mon-Fri, 08:30 to 15:30, PAYE, Term time only **
