Academics are recruiting on behalf of a small school in the Totton area of Southampton which specialises in educating pupils aged 11‑16 years with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). They are looking to appoint an Unqualified English Teacher with experience of teaching secondary aged pupils. Having taught young people with Autism or complex learning needs would be an advantage, although not essential.

This is an on‑going, possible temp‑to‑perm position to start after Easter. They recognise the importance of helping students with autism to develop problem‑solving skills to promote independence both in school and in the transition to adult life. They believe in creating an individualised programme to meet each child's needs adapting a unique ‘autistic curriculum’. This not only captures the students' learning needs but also addresses social, emotional and communication needs of children and young people with autism, and nurtures their independence and well‑being.

The successful Unqualified English Teacher will be required to plan and deliver exciting English lessons across the school. Class sizes are small so you are able to meet their individual learning needs. You will be supported by an experienced team of SEN teachers and specialist support staff.

Required Qualifications:
  • Possess a Degree in English, or equivalent
  • Have recent experience of teaching secondary aged pupils, ideally with SEN
  • Live in the Southampton area, specifically be able to commute to Totton for work
  • Have a passion for teaching pupils with SEN, in particular with Autism and challenging behaviours

If you are an Unqualified English Teacher, live in Southampton and love working with young people with autism and complex learning needs, please apply!
