Are you an experienced and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant looking to make a meaningful impact within specialist SEMH school settings across Doncaster? Academics are seeking committed SEMH support staff for temporary, flexible ongoing roles in SEN schools supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting pupils with complex needs and who thrives within structured, therapeutic learning environments.
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work within specialist SEMH schools supporting pupils who may present with challenging behaviours, attachment needs, trauma backgrounds, communication differences, and social/emotional regulation difficulties. You will collaborate with teachers, therapists and pastoral teams to help pupils engage in learning, regulate emotions and develop positive coping strategies. These settings require patience, consistency and a relational approach to behaviour - making this role ideal for individuals with previous SEMH or SEN experience.
Key Responsibilities- Provide learning and emotional support to pupils with SEMH needs
- Assist pupils in regulating emotions and behaviour using agreed strategies
- Build positive, trusting relationships that promote safety and engagement
- Support small group work and 1:1 interventions
- Contribute to EHCP targets and behaviour support plans
- Work collaboratively with teaching and multi-agency teams
- Uphold safeguarding and wellbeing policies at all times
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH / behaviour needs (essential)
- Ability to remain calm, patient and consistent under pressure
- Strong communication, empathy and de-escalation skills
- Understanding of safeguarding, ACEs, trauma or behaviour support
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)
- GCSE English & Maths (Grade C/4+) (essential)
- CACHE / NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning (desired)
- Team Teach / MAPA / PRICE or similar behaviour training
- Flexible, ongoing SEMH TA roles across Doncaster SEN schools
