Caretaker – Leading Independent School, Berkhamsted

Salary: Up to £25,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

We are seeking a dedicated Caretaker local to Berkhamsted to join a leading independent school in Berkhamsted. This is an exciting opportunity for a reliable and proactive individual to play a key role in ensuring our school site remains safe, secure, and well maintained.

Key Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of school buildings and grounds.
  • Ensuring security of the premises, including key holding and alarm management.
  • Carrying out health and safety checks in line with statutory requirements.
  • Undertaking cleaning, repair, and general caretaking duties.
  • Supporting staff and contractors with access and facilities use.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Experience in building maintenance and use of cleaning methods/materials.
  • Knowledge of basic health and safety requirements (COSHH awareness desirable).
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships with colleagues, pupils, and parents.
  • Resilience, reliability, and a proactive attitude.
  • Physical capability to carry out lifting, carrying, and general site duties.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience as a Caretaker in a school environment.
  • Recognised qualifications in building construction, engineering services, or site management.
  • Knowledge of SEN and experience working in an educational setting.
