Are you a Psychology graduate looking to gain valuable hands-on experience working with children? Are you passionate about children's mental health, emotional wellbeing and development?
A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Trowbridge is seeking a dedicated Primary Mental Health Assistant to join their supportive team. This is an excellent opportunity for a Psychology graduate or someone with a strong interest in mental health to gain practical experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs, autism and additional learning needs.
This role would be particularly well suited to graduates looking to build experience before pursuing a career in educational psychology, clinical psychology, counselling, therapy, mental health support, teaching or youth work.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing 1:1 support to help pupils regulate emotions and engage with learning
- Supporting children with SEMH needs, autism and additional needs
- Delivering small-group activities focused on confidence, resilience and social skills
- Using positive behaviour strategies to support emotional regulation
- Working alongside teachers, SENCOs and other professionals to support individual needs
What We're Looking For
- A patient, empathetic and resilient approach
- A genuine interest in children's mental health and development
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships
- Confidence supporting children with SEN, SEMH or behavioural needs
- Previous experience working with children or vulnerable individuals is desirable but not essential
Ideal Backgrounds
- Psychology or related degree
- Aspiring Educational or Clinical Psychologists
- Youth work, care or support work
- Experience in SEN settings, PRUs or alternative provision
- Mental health or wellbeing support
- Team Teach, MAPA or CPI training
