The Role

As a PRU Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting pupils with social, emotional and behavioural needs

  • Working with primary and secondary-aged pupils

  • Supporting pupils who display challenging behaviour

  • Using trauma-informed approaches to build trust and positive relationships

  • Encouraging emotional regulation and positive behaviour

  • Helping pupils engage with learning and classroom activities

  • Providing one-to-one and small-group support where required

  • Working closely with teachers and other school staff

  • Helping create a safe, calm and supportive learning environment

  • Following individual support plans and behaviour strategies

  • Maintaining safeguarding standards and school procedures

We're Looking For as a PRU Teaching Assistant

  • Previous experience working with pupils with challenging behaviour

  • An understanding of trauma-informed practice

  • Experience supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs is desirable

  • Flexibility and confidence adapting to different situations

  • A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers to learning
