About the Role

As a Psychology Teaching Assistant in Havering, you will work closely with pupils who require additional emotional and behavioural support.

You will help create a calm, safe and positive environment where pupils can feel supported and begin to build confidence.

You will work alongside experienced staff to understand individual needs, encourage positive behaviour and help pupils engage with their education.

This role would particularly suit someone with a background in Psychology, Education, SEN, Mental Health or Behaviour Support, although candidates with relevant experience and a passion for working with young people are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support.
  • Support pupils experiencing emotional and behavioural difficulties.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Help manage challenging behaviour using appropriate strategies.
  • Encourage pupils to engage positively with learning.
  • Work closely with teachers and support staff.
  • Promote pupils' emotional wellbeing and independence.
  • Candidate Requirements
  • Psychology, Education or related experience is advantageous.
  • Experience supporting children or young people is beneficial.
  • Understanding of emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Patient, calm and empathetic approach.
  • Confident managing challenging situations.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Enhanced DBS or willingness to apply.
