An Alternative Provision setting in Littlehampton is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Science Teacher to join their supportive team, working with young adults with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about making Science accessible and engaging for students who may have struggled within a mainstream education environment.

You will play an important role in building confidence, developing positive relationships and helping students re-engage with education.

As a Science Teacher, you will

  • Plan and deliver engaging and accessible Science lessons tailored to the individual needs and abilities of students.
  • Teach children and young adults with a range of SEMH needs within an Alternative Provision setting.
  • Create a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment where students feel supported and valued.
  • Adapt lessons and teaching approaches to meet a range of learning, behavioural and emotional needs.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students and encourage positive attitudes towards learning.
  • Monitor student progress and provide appropriate feedback and support.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and the wider pastoral team to support students' academic and personal development.
  • Promote positive behaviour, resilience, confidence and independence.

What We're Looking For

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Experience teaching Science, ideally within a secondary school or specialist setting.
  • Experience working with students with SEMH needs or a strong understanding of supporting young people with additional needs.
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.
  • A flexible, patient and nurturing approach to teaching.
  • The ability to adapt lessons to engage students with different learning needs and abilities.
  • A genuine commitment to helping young people overcome barriers to education.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
  • Able to commute to Littlehampton.
