Academic Appointments is seeking qualified and committed primary teachers to join our supply team, working in mainstream primary schools across Wakefield and the surrounding areas.

The role

As a general cover primary teacher, you will deliver high-quality lessons across a range of year groups, ensuring pupils continue to receive an engaging and effective education in the absence of their class teacher.

You will be expected to create a positive learning environment, maintain high expectations and adapt your teaching to meet the needs of all learners.

Opportunities are available across the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

Duties and responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include

  • Planning and delivering lessons in line with the National Curriculum where required.
  • Delivering pre-prepared lessons and adapting teaching to meet the needs of the class.
  • Creating a positive, inclusive and well-managed classroom environment.
  • Assessing pupils' progress and providing feedback where appropriate.
  • Supporting pupils' academic, social and emotional development.
  • Managing behaviour in accordance with each school's policies and expectations.
  • Working collaboratively with teaching assistants, school leaders and other members of staff.
  • Building positive relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues.
  • Completing any necessary school documentation.
  • Following safeguarding, health and safety, and school policies at all times.

Person specification

Applicants must have

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK.
  • Previous experience teaching within a primary school.
  • A sound understanding of the National Curriculum and effective classroom practice.
  • The ability to deliver engaging lessons across a range of primary age groups.
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • The ability to establish positive working relationships quickly.
  • A flexible and professional approach to working in different school settings.
  • Availability for full-time work and long-term placements where required.
  • Recent professional references covering teaching experience.
  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and child protection procedures.
