Senior Estimator
Location: Based Surbiton – covering London and Southeast England
Full time permanent role – hybrid /flexible working
Competitive salary DOE car allowance
We are currently recruiting for a Senior Estimator on behalf of our client, a well-established, commercial construction company based in Surbiton.
Key Responsibilities: –
The purpose of the role of Senior Estimator is to manage and oversee the estimating department and its team and resources to ensure that business is secured by the company in accordance with the annual targets and budgets and to exercise sound commercial sense and management to ensure that all enquiries are secured and delivered.
• Developing and implementing the departmental strategy in line with company objectives
• To successfully oversee the professional delivery all proposals from receipt of enquiry to delivery
• Overseeing the management and professional development of departmental staff, arranging training, mentoring, reviews and appraisals
• Forecasting, monitoring and ensuring commercial targets are being achieved
• Implementing and developing new strategies to ensure ongoing improvements year on year
• Overseeing departmental recruitment
• Investigate and stay up to date with advances in technology and make recommendations for implementing systems which might give us a commercial advantage
• Ensuring all proposals are prepared and delivered on time and to a high standard
• Taking every opportunity to maximise profitability
• To have a good understanding of standard Building Contracts and use this to spot opportunities and risks intender documents
• To ensure synergy between the estimating and other departments and ensure that company procedures are being implemented
• Contribute to the company’s senior management team and provide monthly written reports and forecasts on the performance of the department
• Help to improve and develop the company by contributing strategic ideas and improvements to the overall operation of the company
This is “hands on role” as a Roof Estimator with the additional responsibility of managing the estimating department and team.
Person Specification: –
• Must have roofing estimating experience (flat/pitched/industrial sheeting & cladding)
• Familiar with refurbishment projects on occupied buildings
• Experience working for a contractor is essential
• Able to survey, measure, and assess roof structures
• Writes clear specs, tenders, and cost breakdowns
• Proficient with MS Office (particularly Excel) and professional report writing
• Well-presented, organised, with great attention to detail
• Manages multiple tenders effectively
• Strong communicator and team player
• Must hold a full UK driving licence
• Lives within 1 hour commute from Surbiton
• Willing to travel across London and the Southeast
