Join the UK office as a Senior Coverage Banker within the Infrastructure client sector team and lead the sector coverage for Europe, responsible for origination, structuring, and execution of financing solutions across the infrastructure landscape. The role includes EPC contractors, construction firms, Export Credit Agencies (ECAs), and Infrastructure Funds, with a sectoral focus on Water, Waste, Transport (Roads, Airports, Ports), and Energy. You will also play a strategic role in shaping the infrastructure strategy for Absa Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB), enhancing risk frameworks, and expanding international partnerships.
This role is suited to an individual with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in infrastructure finance, project finance, and structured lending. Will have a strong understanding of ECA finance, credit risk and infrastructure investment coupled with excellent analytical, financial modeling, and stakeholder management skills. A strategic mindset with the ability to drive cross-functional initiatives and influence senior stakeholders with effective communication and a collaborative and entrepreneurial approach. Bilingual in English and French is highly preferable. Requisite right to work in the UK is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Client Coverage & Relationship Management
- Manage and grow relationships with existing portfolio clients, ensuring high levels of service and strategic engagement.
- Originate new client relationships across infrastructure sectors and geographies.
- Lead the credit risk review process for all clients, ensuring timely and accurate risk assessments and articulation of group relationship.
- Oversee pricing strategy and deal structuring to ensure commercial viability and alignment with client needs.
- Collaborate across CIB to deliver seamless, integrated solutions.
- Work with the relevant CIB teams to structure and execute project finance, ECA-backed loans, and blended finance solutions.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external advisors to ensure smooth execution.
- Provide deep African insights to European clients into infrastructure sectors including Water, Waste, Transport, and Energy.
- Infrastructure Strategy Development
- Lead the development and implementation of the Infrastructure Sector strategy for CIB, aligning with global trends, client demand, and regulatory priorities.
- Identify growth opportunities across sectors and geographies and define strategic priorities for origination and product innovation.
- Design and implement a Mandate & Scale framework to enhance credit risk governance and portfolio management.
- Ensure alignment between transaction risk profiles and strategic appetite, enabling scalable and sustainable growth.
- Broaden the bank’s international ECA coverage by onboarding new ECAs and strengthening relationships with existing partners.
- Leverage ECA programs to support cross-border infrastructure projects, particularly in emerging and frontier markets.
