Job Summary

Resource and Project Finance (RPF) sit within Absa’s Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) division and reports into the Head of CIB. The team is responsible for identifying, structuring, and executing RPF banking opportunities across Africa. Based in London, the Director will report directly to the Head of RPF, International and be responsible for leading the structuring and execution of Project Finance transactions. The candidate will hold a minimum of 10+ years’ experience in Project Finance / Investment Banking / Corporate Finance / Advisory or equivalent role and be able to demonstrate an in-depth understanding and knowledge of natural resources and energy markets.

Job Description

  • Lead the origination and execution of Project Finance transactions in the natural resources and energy sector (oil and gas);
  • Undertake detailed transaction due diligence of potential transactions, including the review and analysis of IMs, financial, legal, reserve, market and technical DD reports;
  • Lead and / or oversee the internal credit assessment of RPF deals for review and approval by Business and Credit Committees;
  • Lead the negotiation of finance and project documents, including in the role as Documentation Bank;
  • Lead client, bank, and / or advisor interaction including presentation of marketing materials and pitching to clients;
  • Support all areas of execution from origination to close to achieve the Bank’s growth strategy;
  • In conjunction with the client coverage team, support the maintenance and active engagement with key client relationships;
  • Promote the cross-sell of products from other areas of the Bank;
  • Oversee the portfolio management of existing transactions including credit reviews, redeterminations, waivers and consent requests;
  • Assist in shaping the strategy and promoting the profile of the Bank in the natural resources and energy sector (oil and gas);
  • Manage, mentor and develop junior members of the team.

Key Attributes:

  • Deal experience leading the financing of complex Project Finance transactions for clients in the natural resources and energy sectors (upstream / midstream oil and gas), preferably on transactions in Africa;
  • In-depth knowledge of Project Finance debt structures including term loans, RBLs, RCFs, PXFs, and other forms of financing including acquisition financing, mezzanine finance, and DCM products such as high yield bonds;
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the natural resources and energy sector and recent RPF transactions across Africa;
  • Detailed understanding of risk and the credit approval process for banks;
  • Existing relationships with key energy players in African markets and the ability to maintain and develop good relationships with clients;
  • Strong credit writing, financial analysis, and cash flow modelling skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise leadership and influence in dealing with external and internal stakeholders;
  • Strong communication skills – oral, written and presentation;
  • Leadership experience overseeing junior team members to work collaboratively to achieve timely outcomes in a small team, deal driven environment.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in Project Finance / Investment Banking / Corporate Finance / Advisory or equivalent role with proven track record of financings across the natural resources and energy value chain (upstream / midstream oil and gas), preferably with exposure to deals in Africa.
