We're recruiting on behalf of a well-established engineering business in Manchester for a Mechanical Fitter to join their production team. This is a hands-on role in a precision environment — ideal for someone who takes pride in the quality of their work and is comfortable operating to exact standards. The work is varied and methodical — component assembly, finishing and accurate parts identification — rather than heavy fabrication or welding.
What the role involves:
- Small-scale mechanical assembly, building components and sub-assemblies from engineering drawings
- Deburring machined components to a high finish standard using hand tools, files and grinding equipment
- Operating identification and marking equipment to label and trace parts with serial numbers or batch information
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings accurately throughout
- Maintaining quality and attention to detail across all stages of assembly and finishing
What we're looking for:
- Previous experience in a mechanical fitting, assembly or precision engineering environment
- Comfortable using hand tools and basic fitting equipment to a high standard
- Able to read and work from engineering drawings confidently
- Good attention to detail — this is a quality-focused environment
- Toolmaking or precision engineering background is a distinct advantage but not essential
- Reliable, punctual and ready to hit the ground running
