The Investment Risk Governance team sits within the Risk & Compliance function and plays a critical role in Aberdeen’s oversight framework. The team provides assurance that risks across public markets portfolios are well understood, appropriately managed and aligned to client outcomes. Working across asset classes and partnering with portfolio managers, product teams and governance bodies, the team helps enable our clients to be better investors by ensuring robust, transparent and forward-looking risk oversight.
As a Senior Investment Risk Manager based in London, you will deliver independent oversight and challenge across risks taken within Aberdeen’s public markets funds and mandates. Operating in the second line of defence, you will assess risk exposures, provide clear assurance to senior stakeholders, engage with portfolio managers and contribute to product development and model validation. This permanent role offers high visibility across the business, opportunities to work with senior forums and access to multiple asset class teams, supporting your development as you invest in your tomorrow through meaningful impact and technical depth.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide independent oversight and assurance across investment risks in public markets portfolios, escalating issues where needed.
- Review and enhance investment risk policies, limits and procedures to meet regulatory expectations and best practice.
- Monitor market developments, stress tests and risk metrics across market, credit, liquidity and ESG risks.
- Validate risk models, including fundamental and statistical factor models, and contribute to thematic reviews.
- Engage with portfolio managers, product teams, governance bodies and clients to embed strong risk practices and provide clear insights.
- Support new product approval processes from a second-line investment risk perspective, including setting appropriate risk limits.
- Significant investment risk experience, ideally in asset management with cross-asset exposure.
- Strong technical skills including Python, VBA, SQL and familiarity with risk modelling approaches.
- Ability to communicate complex risk concepts clearly and influence senior stakeholders.
- Experience working in first- or second-line functions, with strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Understanding of investment management and investment risk management based on practical experience.
- Professional qualifications such as CFA or FRM are desirable.
