Product Tax Assistant Manager – 9 month FTC (Parental Leave Cover)

Role Purpose:
The Product Tax Assistant Manager (9 month FTC) will play a key role in managing the product and investment tax affairs of the Aberdeen business, focused on our range of UK, Luxembourg and Irish domiciled public market funds. The role will work closely with other members of the public markets tax team to:
- Provide a comprehensive tax advisory service to the UK, Luxembourg and Irish funds, with input as required to the wider international fund range.
- Provide effective tax input and support to the product, investment and operational teams on fund and investment tax issues.
- Coordinate the business and third party outsourced providers, and manage external tax compliance agents/advisors to ensure effective oversight and completion of specific tax reporting and filing services for the fund range, investors and investments as appropriate.
- Assist the business in understanding and monitoring the tax impact and requirements for distributing and investing in new and existing territories to ensure that tax risks and opportunities are identified, and tax obligations for the product range are met.
- Provide effective and timely communication to the business of the impact of any changes to product and investment taxes identifying potential opportunities and risks.
- Establish and maintain internal tax policies in relation to investment taxes and procedures and coordinating with colleagues globally on such matters, where appropriate.
Key responsibilities of the role:
- Responsible for managing a large book of outsourced international tax compliance work, including European investor tax reporting (e.g. UK, Germany, Austria, Italy) and tax agency filings (e.g. India, Romania, Nigeria).
- Responsible for managing identified withholding tax reclaims and relief at source.
- Provide tax support on new product activities including fund launches, mergers and closures.
- Provide tax technical support to the business teams (e.g. Front Office, Product, Finance, Operations, Legal and Compliance) to ensure product and investment tax risks, obligations and opportunities are identified and resolved.
- Research, respond to inquiries, and propose solutions to complex tax matters related to operational aspects of funds.
- Build and maintain working relationships with third-party service providers (custodian, fund administrators) and advisor firms.
- Ensure effective controls and processes are in place to identify and manage all applicable investment and fund tax risks and obligations in relation to the product range, providing support as required to the business where these controls and processes sit in operational areas.
- Understand best practice and liaise as appropriate with external stakeholders, including applicable industry bodies.
- Assist where required in relation to tax issues impacting the investment manager.
- Partner with the wider team in special projects related to funds and investments.
- Work closely with other tax colleagues in the wider group to ensure tax issues relevant to other business areas in the group are understood and considered as part of the above activities.
About the Candidate:
- Strong knowledge of product and investment tax issues across UK, Luxembourg and Irish funds.
- Big 4 background preferred.
- Ability to research, analyse and propose solutions for tax matters.
- Exposure to investment management tax.
- Professional qualifications: CTA / ATT / ACA / ACCA.
- Understanding of withholding tax, relief-at-source and reclaim processes.
- Experience with international tax compliance, including investor tax reporting and tax agency filings.
