Internal Audit Specialist
We are currently looking for a talented Internal Audit Specialist to help support Aberdeen in delivering against its strategic ambitions in the Internal Audit team whilst supporting effective management of the risks faced by the business in that pursuit.

About the Role
The Internal Audit Specialist plays a key role in driving audit delivery across the Investments audit team. While each Specialist is aligned to a specific business or function’s team, allowing for deep operational insight, the role is also designed to be adaptable. Specialists are called upon to contribute or assist with audit delivery in different areas as needed, ensuring development opportunities, a well‑rounded perspective, and a consistent audit approach across the various audit teams. This role has no line‑management responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development of the audit plan through researching appropriate universe entities, inputting knowledge from stakeholder engagements and other insight meetings, and proposing audit ideas.
- Support Audit Manager/Senior Manager and Heads of Audit in developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders to enhance business area knowledge and promote best audit practice across the Group, including attending governance committees and forums where appropriate.
- Plan, scope, and perform audit work to support delivery of the Audit Plan; take on the Audit Lead role on audits when required.
- Analyse identified issues to determine root causes and report findings, ensuring timely follow‑up to achieve effective delivery.
- Document audit delivery work to meet methodology and quality requirements, ensuring timely completion and escalation of issues and risks.
- Communicate audit findings clearly and constructively to Senior Business Management in conjunction with Audit Manager/Senior Manager on complex audits.
- Validate issues to the expected standards, report on where the business has not closed issues adequately, and identify where further work is required.
- Act as a role model for IA’s vision, culture, strategy, and plan in line with organisational goals, delivering difficult messages to the business when required.
- Support the delivery of Aberdeen’s strategy by focusing IA’s work on the highest risk areas and providing support for less experienced colleagues.
- Assist other audit delivery teams in delivering audits on time and to the expected quality, engaging with Internal Audit colleagues and promoting innovative ideas and ways of working.
About the Candidate
- A good understanding of internal audit standards and working practices.
- Good written and oral communication skills in one‑to‑one and group environments.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and a genuine ability to influence and communicate effectively at all levels.
- Educated to degree level with a relevant professional qualification or experience in a relevant role (e.g., accounting, audit, risk).
