About the Role
The Internal Audit Specialist plays a key role in driving audit delivery across the Investments audit team. While each Specialist is aligned to a specific business or functions team, the role is adaptable, contributing or assisting with audit delivery in different areas as needed to provide a well‑rounded perspective and a consistent audit approach across the various audit teams. This role has no line management responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development of the audit plan through researching the appropriate universe entity, drawing on stakeholder engagements and other insights, and proposing audit ideas.
- Support Audit Manager/Senior Manager and Heads of Audit in developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders to enhance business area knowledge and promote best audit practice across the Group.
- Take responsibility for detailed planning, scoping and performance of audit work to support delivery of the Audit Plan, and, where appropriate, perform the Audit Lead role.
- Analyse issues identified to determine root causes and report findings with related follow‑up undertaken timely to ensure effective delivery.
- Ensure documentation of audit delivery work meets methodology and quality requirements, and that work is completed on time with issues and risks escalated as needed.
- Articulate and communicate audit findings effectively to Senior Business Management in a clear, constructive and accurate manner (in conjunction with Audit Manager/Senior Manager on complex audits).
- Validate issues to expected standards in line with methodology, and report on unresolved business issues and further required work.
- Act as a role model for IA’s vision, culture, strategy and plan, delivering difficult messages to the business when required.
- Support the delivery of Aberdeen’s strategy by focusing IA’s work on the highest risk areas and supporting less experienced colleagues.
- Assist other audit delivery teams to deliver audits on time and to expected quality, engaging with Internal Audit colleagues and promoting innovative ideas and ways of working.
About the Candidate
- A good understanding of internal audit standards and working practices.
- Strong written and oral communication skills suitable for 1:1 and group environments.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and a genuine ability to influence and communicate effectively at all levels.
- Educated to degree level with a relevant professional qualification or experience in a relevant role (e.g., accounting, audit, risk).
