About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and practical individual to join our team as a Calf Rearing Technician. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop hands-on livestock skills while gaining experience in a structured, corporate environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Calf Rearing Manager with routine visits to contracted calf rearing units
- Monitor calf health and welfare, identifying and flagging any unviable or at-risk animals
- Provide clear and timely feedback to the wider business Assist with weighing calves and linking/recording EID (electronic identification) tags
- Support vaccination programmes as required
- Carry out quality checks on calves entering the scheme at collection centers
- Ensure high standards of animal welfare and biosecurity are maintained at all times
Working Style
- Combination of independent work and collaborative support with Calf Rearing Managers
- Manage your own schedule while contributing to planned strategic visits
- Regular travel across South Wales and the Southwest, including occasional overnight stays
Personal specification
- Self-motivated with strong organisational skills
- Comfortable working independently and managing your own diary
- Practical, hands-on approach with livestock (experience with calves or dairy preferred) Good observational skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication skills for reporting and feedback
- Full UK driving license and willingness to travel extensively
