ABP Food Group is a food business that specialises in the supply and development, producing award‑winning British and Irish beef and lamb products for retail, foodservice and wholesale. ABP Langport, part of the ABP UK division, is looking for an ideal candidate to join our Yard Team as a Shunter and Yard Operative. Transport is required due to our rural location. Please check your travel options before applying.

Responsibilities

  • Provision of shunting and forklift services to maintain the smooth running of the plant and site, contributing to maximum operational efficiency.
  • Operate shunter and forklift as required according to SOPs, ensuring that all trailers are moved to the correct area and work according to procedures.
  • Ensure factory perimeters and external areas are maintained in an orderly and tidy manner at all times.
  • Ensure all non‑food deliveries correspond with appropriate paperwork.
  • Carry out all vehicular activities in a manner compliant with site health and safety requirements.
  • Ensure CAT 1 and CAT 3 materials are disposed of correctly and that appropriate paperwork is completed and retained.
  • Prepare trailers for production use in compliance with organisational operating procedures.
  • Load and unload lorries, ensuring goods are checked in accordance with operating procedures.
  • Monitor bone‑exit conveyor and ensure trailers are moved as required to prevent production disruption or spillage of waste material.
  • Ensure all maturation trailers are cleaned and functioning correctly.
  • Use own initiative and multitask, communicating with all levels of site staff.
  • Ensure support to operational teams is efficient and meets business needs at all times.
  • Maintain a commercial mindset, acting as a self‑starter and working independently.
  • Be flexible, responsive, resilient and a team player.

Desirable

  • Hold the appropriate vehicle licences and take responsibility for maintaining them.

Working Hours

Monday to Friday 10am – 7pm

Rate: £14.50 per hour rising to £15.00 upon successful completion of probation.
