Temporary Christmas Housekeeper Required for a Private Household in Berkshire
Location: Berkshire
Dates: 21st December 2026 - 3rd January 2027
Salary: Up to £25 per hour, depending on experience, with enhanced rates available for festive days
Working Hours: 7 days per week (Monday - Friday: 7:00am - 3:30pm, Saturday - Sunday: 7:30am - 1:30pm)
Accommodation: Ideally live-out, although live-in accommodation may be considered for exceptional candidates with sufficient notice.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and professional Temporary Housekeeper to provide Christmas cover at a large private country residence in Berkshire.
This is a busy and varied position, particularly over the festive period, requiring someone who is confident maintaining exceptionally high housekeeping standards whilst assisting with household events, entertaining and the smooth day-to-day running of the home.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience working in a large private country house or similar high-standard environment, with excellent knowledge of caring for delicate fabrics, fine furnishings and valuable fixtures and fittings.
Role Responsibilities
You will be responsible for maintaining the household to an exceptional standard throughout the Christmas period, including cleaning bathrooms, laundry, ironing, bed-making, dusting, polishing and general housekeeping.
Additional responsibilities will include wardrobe and cupboard organisation, packing and unpacking for travel, and assisting with the preparation and clearing of formal and informal events, including table presentation and guest hospitality.
You will also work alongside the household chef when required, assist with light cooking and food preparation, manage household deliveries and supplies, undertake shopping and errands, and help maintain household vehicles.
Pet care, including dog walking, feeding and cleaning, will also form part of the role.
Ideal Candidate
- Previous experience in a high-standard private household, luxury hotel or country estate
- Experience working in a listed country house would be advantageous
- Excellent laundry, ironing and hotel-standard bed-making skills
- Confident handling delicate fabrics, fine furnishings and valuable household items
- Experience assisting with formal entertaining and household events
- Professional, discreet, organised and highly reliable
- Flexible and happy to assist with a wide range of household duties
- Full, clean driving licence and confident driving 4x4 vehicles
- Available for the full Christmas cover period, including weekends and festive days
