The Management Accountant is positioned within the Finance department and reports to the UK Head of Financial Planning & Analysis (Head of FP&A). The Finance department is responsible for managing financial risks, financial reporting, generating information to support decision-making (MI), planning and analysing business trends, as well as the accounts payable and receivable processes, including managing vendor payments.
Financial planning and analysis, as well as financial reporting to fulfil both internal management and ongoing external regulatory requirements, are the defining features of the Finance department. The products delivered by the Finance department to the organisation, clients, and key stakeholders include financial reporting and analysis, regulatory reporting to the PRA and FCA, Bank of England statistical reporting, management information (including budgeting and forecasting), accounting operations (including accounts payable), foreign exchange hedging, tax accounting, and tax risk management.
The UK Finance department undertakes a complex role, in particular due to regulatory requirements. It is responsible for the implementation and ongoing oversight of sound financial and operational controls and governance. There is a strong element of dependency on ABN AMRO Group functions in terms of governance, systems, and controls. Therefore, the required level of coordination and communication with Head Office, combined with monthly business-as-usual and project tasks, requires ongoing focus and attention to detail.
The Management Accountant supports the delivery of core FP&A activities for the UK business, working under the direction of the Head of FP&A. Responsibilities include:
- Supporting the production of monthly management information (MI) for the UK Executive Committee, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to agreed timelines.
- Producing detailed financial analysis and commentary on actual performance versus budget and forecast, including the identification of key drivers and trends.
- Supporting the budgeting and forecasting processes for revenues, costs, and balance sheet items, including the consolidation of inputs from stakeholders.
- Preparing MI and analysis to support quarterly performance reviews and ad-hoc business requests.
- Performing cost control and monitoring activities, including variance analysis and support with intragroup cost allocations and recharges.
- Assisting with the maintenance and documentation of FP&A processes, ensuring standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions are kept up to date.
- Liaising with Group Finance and local stakeholders to support alignment of reporting methodologies and cost allocations.
- Supporting the development and monitoring of financial KPIs.
- Contributing to the identification, assessment, and mitigation of financial risks, working closely with the wider Finance team.
- Supporting knowledge sharing within the Finance team to help mitigate key-person risk, particularly in relation to MI and budgeting processes.
- Contributing to process improvement initiatives, including automation, standardisation, and the streamlining of existing FP&A processes.
- Providing support to the Head of FP&A on ad-hoc analysis and projects as required.
This role does not have direct line management responsibility but may provide day-to-day guidance and oversight to junior team members or trainees.
