Overview

The Management Accountant is positioned within the Finance department and reports to the UK Head of Financial Planning & Analysis ("Head of FP&A"). The Finance department is responsible for managing financial risks, financial reporting, generating information to support decision‑making (MI), planning and analysing business trends, and managing accounts payable and receivable processes, including vendor payments. Financial planning and analysis, as well as financial reporting to fulfil both internal management and ongoing external regulatory requirements, are the defining features of the Finance department. The products delivered include financial reporting and analysis, regulatory reporting to the PRA and FCA, Bank of England statistical reporting, management information (budgeting and forecasting), accounting operations, foreign exchange hedging, tax accounting, and tax risk management. The UK Finance department undertakes a complex role due to regulatory requirements. It implements and oversees sound financial and operational controls and governance, aligning closely with ABN AMRO Group functions. Ongoing coordination with Head Office and monthly business‑as‑usual tasks demand focus and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Support the production of monthly management information (MI) for the UK Executive Committee, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to agreed timelines.
  • Produce detailed financial analysis and commentary on actual performance versus budget and forecast, identifying key drivers and trends.
  • Support the budgeting and forecasting processes for revenues, costs, and balance sheet items, consolidating inputs from stakeholders.
  • Prepare MI and analysis for quarterly performance reviews and ad‑hoc business requests.
  • Perform cost control and monitoring activities, including variance analysis and support with intragroup cost allocations and recharges.
  • Assist with the maintenance and documentation of FP&A processes, ensuring SOPs and work instructions are up to date.
  • Liaise with Group Finance and local stakeholders to align reporting methodologies and cost allocations.
  • Support the development and monitoring of financial KPIs.
  • Contribute to the identification, assessment, and mitigation of financial risks in collaboration with the wider Finance team.
  • Support knowledge sharing within the Finance team to mitigate key‑person risk, especially regarding MI and budgeting processes.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives, including automation, standardisation, and streamlining of existing FP&A processes.
  • Provide support to the Head of FP&A on ad‑hoc analysis and projects as required.

This role does not have direct line management responsibility but may provide day‑to‑day guidance and oversight to junior team members or trainees.
