LOCATION: London Heathrow Airport

SHIFT PATTERN: 4 on 2 off, 40 hours per week

PAY RATE: Competitive

Purpose: Working as a member of the PRS Airside Driver Team, you will drive the Company’s specialist vehicles on the airfield to transfer passengers with reduced mobility (PRS’s) from the aircraft to the terminal building or from the terminal building to the aircraft. The vehicles range from minibuses to Class 2 rigid heavy goods type vehicles, for which full training and instruction would be given. You will also be required to assist PRS’s onto the aircraft, to their seat or into the ABM vehicles or terminal buildings which involves passenger and manual handling techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete the daily Vehicle Check Sheet, maintain the operational reliability of the vehicle, reporting when necessary any vehicle defects in line with the Vehicle Inspection procedure.
  • Drive the Company vehicles ensuring that the vehicle is safe and secure at all times.
  • Operate the vehicle safely within close proximity to the aircraft using all safety systems of the vehicle.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy vehicle at all times.
  • Ensure PPE is always worn when operating airside.
  • Deliver or collect the passengers at the aircraft door and assist with the transfer into their seat or wheelchair through safe manual handling techniques.
  • Complete Customer Care Agent (CCA) duties within the terminal when demand requires, this may include escorting passengers through the terminal/security and boarding flights or meeting arriving flights and assisting PRS’s through to baggage reclaim.
  • Ensure that the Allocator is updated on progress of jobs at all times using PDA’s and Radio.
  • Observe all Heathrow airport airside driving requirements.
  • Promote a safe and secure environment at all times.
  • Ability to operate and use all company equipment after sufficient training, i.e. aisle chairs, slings, porta‑ramp, and tail lift.
  • Ensure accident and incident reporting procedure is adhered to in all cases.
  • Be aware of any airport updates (OAN’s/OSI’s).
  • Roster and shift patterns are subject to operational requirement affected and influenced by the airport and airline schedules.
  • Must be able to operate the following shifts patterns include early starts, late finishes, nights, weekdays, weekends and bank holidays.
  • Always comply with airport bylaws when operating airside.
  • Carry out any reasonable task requested.

Required Experience for the Ramp Driver Role:

  • Maintain a professional image at all times.
  • Ability to deal calmly and reasonably in pressurised situations.

  • Previous Airline & or Airport experience is desired although not essential as full training will be provided.
  • Experience in a similar role or driving larger vehicles would be an advantage.

  • Ability to deal calmly and confidently with all demands from the public.
  • Champion principles of equality, inclusion and diversity.
  • Minimum driving experience/licence held 3 years.

Essential Skills for the Ramp Driver Role:

  • Valid Right to work documentation.
  • 5‑year checkable employment/education history, ideally with a maximum of 5 references for vetting purposes.
  • Must pass a basic DBS check.
  • Overseas Criminal Record Check (if applicable).
  • Available for very early morning shifts, outside of normal public transport times.
  • Able to obtain an airside pass that allows you access to security restricted areas.
  • Must be willing to work weekend and shifts.
  • Full Driving licence is essential with categories C & D desirable (Licence must have been held for 3 years).
  • You must be aged 23 and over for insurance purposes.
  • You must be able to obtain an airside driving permit (Including passing a driving medical with a colour‑blind test).
  • Good command of the English language verbal and written.

Please note that any applicant that has spent more than 6 months in any country other than the UK in the last 5 years; will need a police clearance from all countries that this would apply to. The police clearance will need to cover the full date range the applicant was in the specific country, furthermore, the police clearance needs to be obtained before the applicant attending any interview with ABM.
