Deliver work in accordance with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, the IET Wiring Regulations BS 7671 (18th Edition, including current amendments), relevant British Standards, LFB requirements, manufacturer instructions and approved safe systems of work.
Plan and prioritise work across reactive, remedial and PPM demand, using geographic batching and shared station coverage to improve response, productivity, vehicle utilisation and service resilience.
Complete accurate technical records, inspection and testing documentation, defect reports, quotations or follow-on recommendations so that work is auditable, compliant and capable of being invoiced without delay.
Support the electrical team with generator load testing, emergency power resilience, emergency lighting compliance and knowledge transfer to other ABM engineers, within the limits of competence and authorisation.
Identify lifecycle replacement, obsolescence, recurring failure and asset-condition risks, escalating defects that may affect operational resilience, statutory compliance or continuity of fire-station services.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Complete Electrical Installation Certificates (EIC), Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificates (MEIWC), Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICR), schedules of test results, emergency lighting records and other required NICEIC or client certification accurately and within the required timescale.
- Maintain and test emergency lighting systems in accordance with applicable requirements, including BS 5266-1, BS EN 1838 and BS EN 50172, and clearly report failures, non-compliances and battery or luminaire replacement requirements.
- Conduct generator and standby-power load testing, record results, identify defects affecting automatic transfer, batteries, control systems or changeover arrangements, and escalate any condition that may compromise emergency power availability.
- Complete engineer worksheets, technical reports, rejection reports and follow-on scopes with sufficient detail to identify the failed component, the cause of failure, the recommended remedy, access requirements and any parts or specialist support required.
- Obtain customer or authorised site representative sign-off and submit all job documentation, photographs, test results and supporting information to enable prompt job closure, cost recovery and contract reporting.
- Work collaboratively with the LFB account team, contract staff, supervisors, administrators and other trades to coordinate access, permits, isolations, fire-station operational constraints and customer communications.
- Use mobile working time effectively, including accurate weekly timesheets, expenses with receipts, travel records and clear separation of productive, travel and non-productive time.
- Support the wider ABM business when LFB workload permits, while maintaining LFB response, PPM, remedial and compliance priorities.
