About the role

You’ll support children aged 0 to 18 (and young people up to 25 in transition) in family homes, schools and community settings. Every day is different. You might help a child with personal care, support them at a sensory session, take them to a club, or give their family a well‑earned break. You’ll follow each child’s care plan and work closely with parents, social workers, nurses and schools.

What you’ll do

  • Provide personal care with dignity and respect, including washing, dressing, toileting and mealtimes
  • Support children with complex health needs, such as PEG feeding, epilepsy care and medication (full training given)
  • Follow positive behaviour support plans using calm, proactive approaches
  • Communicate using each child’s preferred method, such as Makaton, PECS or visual aids
  • Plan and support play, learning and community activities
  • Keep accurate daily records on our electronic care system
  • Recognise and report any safeguarding concerns straight away

What we’re looking for

Two years’ experience with children and learning disabilities is preferred.

  • Experience supporting children or adults with learning disabilities, autism or additional needs (paid, voluntary or personal)
  • A patient, kind and dependable approach
  • Good written and spoken English
  • Willingness to complete the Care Certificate and ongoing training
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends
  • Full UK driving licence and own vehicle

Desirable

  • Level 2 or 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Children and Young People)
  • Experience with PEG feeding, epilepsy care, PBS or Makaton

What we offer

  • Up to £14.50 an hour, plus mileage
  • Paid induction, shadow shifts and full specialist training
  • Regular supervision and support from an experienced management team
  • Flexible hours to fit around your life

Requirements

All roles are subject to an Enhanced DBS with Children’s Barred List check, two satisfactory references and proof of right to work in the UK.

We can’t offer visa sponsorship (a Certificate of Sponsorship) for this role at present.
