AbleCare Group are looking for a skilled Kitchen Assistant to provide flexible day-to-day support across the main kitchen and café operation. The role combines kitchen porter and production support with responsibility for routine café food preparation, packing and labelling.

Hours Deployment

The role is flexible rather than split into fixed roles. Approximately 16.25 hours per week of recurring café preparation and packing. Remaining contracted hours will be deployed to kitchen support duties, main-kitchen production and packing support, cleaning, restocking and café service support according to daily priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cafe food preparation - including sandwiches and salads, prepared to agreed recipes, quantities, presentation and portion standards
  • Packing and labelling - Pack, label, date and store café products accurately, maintaining traceability, allergen controls and stock rotation.
  • Kitchen porter duties - Wash cookware, utensils and equipment; operate dishwashing facilities; remove waste; and keep wash-up, storage and work areas clean and orderly.
  • Supporting our main Kitchen - Assist with ingredient preparation, production, portioning, packing, labelling and other tasks allocated by the Head Chef.
  • Opening checks - Complete required opening checks and prepare work areas and equipment for safe operation.
  • Closing and cleaning - Complete closing checks, cleaning routines and handover tasks to the required standard.
  • Coffee production - Support coffee-machine dialling in and drink production when operationally required and appropriately trained.
  • Customer service and till duties - Provide courteous customer service and process till payments accurately when covering the café.
  • Cleaning and restocking - Carry out scheduled and ad hoc cleaning, replenish service and production supplies, and maintain a safe, organised workspace.

General Expectations

  • Work collaboratively with the Head Chef, Café Manager and wider kitchen team.
  • Follow daily priorities and move between café and main-kitchen duties as demand changes.
  • Maintain punctuality, reliable attendance and a professional, helpful approach.
  • Report equipment faults, food-safety concerns, shortages and operational problems promptly.
  • Complete required records accurately and undertake mandatory or role-specific training.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties consistent with the purpose and level of the role.
