At Able Personnel, we are recruiting on behalf of a respected and growing training provider for a passionate Safeguarding Officer to join their expanding team based in Crewe, with travel across local sites when required. This is a full-time permanent position focused on providing front line safeguarding and welfare support to learners, primarily those aged 16 to 18 and learners aged 19 + with additional needs. You will play a vital role in creating a safe, supportive environment where learners feel heard, protected and empowered to thrive.

You will work closely with the Safeguarding and EDI Lead and wider delivery teams to respond to safeguarding concerns, support learner wellbeing, and contribute to a strong safeguarding culture across the organisation.

What you will be doing:

  • Provide a visible and approachable safeguarding presence across learning sites
  • Respond to safeguarding and welfare concerns in a calm, supportive, and timely manner
  • Manage low and medium level concerns, escalating where appropriate in line with safeguarding procedures
  • Build trusted relationships with learners, particularly those facing barriers or requiring additional support
  • Offer guidance and reassurance on wellbeing, mental health, personal safety, and online safety
  • Support learners to develop confidence, resilience, and the skills to keep themselves safe
  • Act as a first point of contact for colleagues seeking safeguarding advice and guidance
  • Work closely with managers to ensure consistent safeguarding practice across sites
  • Liaise with external agencies and support early help interventions and referrals
  • Maintain accurate and timely safeguarding records using internal systems
  • Monitor and follow up on safeguarding and welfare cases to ensure appropriate support is in place
  • Support safeguarding awareness and preventative activities across the learner community
  • Contribute to a positive and proactive safeguarding environment

What we are looking for:

  • Experience working with young people in education, training, youth work, or a support setting
  • Experience supporting mental health, wellbeing, and personal safety
  • Understanding of safeguarding principles, legislation, and best practice for post 16 learners
  • Experience supporting learners with additional needs including those with an EHCP
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills
  • Excellent organisation skills and attention to detail
  • Confidence using digital systems for communication and record keeping

Desirable:

  • Experience as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • Experience with early help processes and external agency working
  • Experience using safeguarding systems such as CPOMS
  • A safeguarding qualification or willingness to work towards one
  • Experience delivering awareness sessions to learners

Qualifications:

  • Level 2 Functional Skills in English or willingness to work towards
  • Good maths skills
  • A qualification in youth work, safeguarding or a related area would be beneficial
