My client, a leading financial institution with a robust global presence, is seeking an IT Senior Security Officer to join their London-based IT team as the first line of defense for all digital security matters.

Responsibilities:

  • Policy & Compliance Leadership: Develop, compile, and regularly review cybersecurity, information security, and data security policies/procedures. Lead the implementation of frameworks like NCSC Cyber Essentials and NIST, striving for corresponding certifications. Ensure adherence to PRA, FCA, ICO guidelines, and GDPR regulations.
  • Security Operations & Incident Management: Oversee real-time monitoring of cybersecurity events and alerts, conduct in-depth analysis and investigation of incidents, and drive effective mitigation and resolution. Maintain core security systems/equipment (firewall, IPS, WAF, SIEM tools like Splunk/Solarwinds, anti-virus, vulnerability scanners) and ensure security logs are properly configured and safeguarded.
  • System & Network Security Hardening: Strengthen security controls for Windows/Linux systems and virtual infrastructures (VMware, Hyper‐V), manage OS patches, software/firmware upgrades, and enhance data encryption across usage, storage, transfer, and disposal. Evaluate and optimize network/firewall policies to ensure effectiveness and necessity.
  • Collaboration & Audits: Liaise with Head Office and the Data Centre's Security Operation Centre to roll out security policies, projects, and controls. Partner with Internal Audit to conduct penetration tests and cybersecurity risk self‐assessments, ensuring best practices and international standards are in place.
  • Training & Resilience: Deliver staff training to reinforce security policy awareness, conduct periodic security drills to validate system functionality, and perform regular CQUEST/CBEST assessments to uphold cybersecurity and operational resilience. Oversee application security (SAST, DAST) throughout development and testing phases.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 6 years of proven experience in IT security, with a strong background in the finance/banking industry. Experience in regulatory technical projects is a significant plus.
  • Expert knowledge of security frameworks (NIST 800, ISO 27001) and regulatory requirements (PRA, FCA, ICO, GDPR). Familiarity with IT internal control and audit is highly recommended.
  • Technical proficiency in network security (routing, firewall, switch), security products (SIEM, EDR), Windows/Linux system administration (GUI & Command Line), Microsoft infrastructure (Exchange, AD, RDS), virtualization, and backup technologies (Veeam, Backup Exec).
  • Preferred certifications: CISA/CISSP/CCSP, MCSA/MCSE/MCITP, VMware Certified Professional, or CCNA/CCNP.
  • Native English proficiency; basic Chinese Mandarin is preferred. Strong communication skills to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels, from Head Office to internal departments.
  • Proactive problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and the capacity to manage complex security initiatives while prioritising critical tasks.
