ABL Health delivers an integrated wellbeing service on behalf of Torbay Councils Public Health Team, bringing together health coaching, Tier 2 weight management, and stop smoking support to improve the health of local communities. The service focuses on accessible, community-based delivery, offering health education, training, and tailored support to residents of Torbay, those working in the area, and individuals registered with a Torbay GP.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a motivated and adaptable individual to deliver ABL Healths Healthy Lifestyles service across the community, supporting clients through one-to-one sessions, group programmes, and digital platforms such as Zoom, Teams, and telephone consultations. The successful candidate will provide evidence-based education on nutrition, physical activity, and behaviour change, using a client-centred approach that incorporates positive psychology and motivational interviewing techniques. This role involves regular travel across Torbay to reach priority communities, monitoring client progress through consultations and accurate data recording (including use of Microsoft Excel), and tailoring interventions for those not on track to meet their goals. You will work collaboratively with clients and stakeholders to co-produce session materials, contribute case studies for performance reporting, and support social media engagement. Additional responsibilities include assisting with training new staff and volunteers, recruiting participants at community events, maintaining detailed and compliant records, and ensuring adherence to ABL Health policies and clinical governance standards. The role also requires strong organisational skills to manage workload priorities, active participation in team and multidisciplinary meetings, and a commitment to continuous professional development and service improvement.

Job responsibilities
- Deliver ABL Healths Healthy Lifestyles service, through one-to-ones or group sessions in the community, and through digital methods such as Zoom/Teams or phone appointments.
- Deliver evidence-based education around nutrition, physical activity and behavioural change as advised by ABL Health team and in line with ABL Health programme curriculums.
- Regularly travel across Torbay to deliver the service to areas of need.
- Deliver programmes with a client-centred approach using skills of positive psychology and motivational interviewing.
- Monitor client's progress through regular consultation and with the use of Microsoft excel, identifying specific treatments for those not on track to achieve their goals.
- Work with clients and stakeholders to co-produce in-session materials.
- Contribute to the contract performance report by submitting regular case studies to the project lead.
- Contribute to and support ABL Healths social media pages.
- Contribute to training and support new staff and volunteers.
- Working with individuals and groups using SMART goal-setting.
- Keep detailed files, recording data accurately, ensuring all forms and other documentation is completed correctly.
- Have a thorough understanding of ABL Health policies and procedures.
- Engage and recruit potential clients at promotional and community events.
- Contribute to ongoing service development needs.
- Attend and actively participate in team and wider company meetings, such as MDT.
- Organise own workload in order of priority and deadline dates, daily administration tasks and other work-related activities.
- Demonstrate personal and professional development in line with the ethos of lifelong learning.
- Work within the framework of clinical governance to maintain and improve patient care, quality and efficiency.
Skills and Competencies Required
- Experience of implementing and delivering behaviour change interventions within a community health environment.
- Positive and proactive in your delivery approach with the ability to motivate, engage and support individuals to achieve their targets and positive health outcomes.
- Adept in communication; a strong communicator who adapts the message to fit the needs of the audience with excellent listening skills and positive approach.
- Build strong relationships; foster trust and cooperation among clients, colleagues, stakeholders and community leaders, to develop and sustain personal contact in order to benefit health and wellbeing of the people of Oldham.
- Value and remain open to new ideas and perspectives.

Person Specification
- Experience of delivering groups and/or one-to-one behaviour change.
- Experience of delivering health promotion / public health interventions in community settings.
- Experience working with hard-to-reach groups and tackling health inequalities.
- Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Previous paid or voluntary experience working with people.
- Experience of building professional relationships.
- Experience of working with adults with long term conditions delivering group workshops in an age-appropriate and engaging manner.
- Experience of delivering groups and/or one-to-one specialist weight management, Smoking Cessation or similar interventions to children, young people and adults.
- Experience of planning and delivering appropriate health interventions specific to individual requirements.
Qualifications
- Registration with CIMSPA (this can be obtained within 6 months of employment).
- Educated to degree level or relevant equivalent experience.
- Coaching qualification.
- Degree in nutrition and/or eligible to be registered as an associate or full member of the UK Voluntary Register of Nutritionists/ or degree OR in exercise, psychology, public health, health improvement other health related field. Or equivalent experience.
