Overview

The Government has set ambitious targets to reduce the prevalence of smoking nationally to 5% by 2030. Mental Health service users will die on average 10-20 years earlier than their non-smoking peers. Helping these clients to stop smoking will have the greatest impact on reducing health inequalities.

As a Mental Health Tobacco Dependency Practitioner, you will be an integral part of Smoking Cessation in the acute setting, ensuring a medical model of care for tobacco dependency is an integrated part of routine client care by all health professionals. Ultimately this programme will lead to the most significant referral route for the overall smoking cessation service within the borough. Were looking for a motivated and passionate individual to take the lead in embedding smoking cessation and tobacco dependency support into routine community mental health care. In this role, youll provide expert advice to help service users quit tobacco, ensuring all interventions comply with NICE and NCSCT guidance, while working collaboratively with partners to deliver integrated, multi-agency care. Youll be responsible for assessing, planning, and delivering tailored programmes to clients with mental health conditions, supporting staff development, and identifying opportunities to improve services. This is a demanding but rewarding role where strong organisation, proactive problem-solving, and the ability to prioritise competing demands will be key to making a real difference.
